Where should I install my carbon monoxide alarm ?

It is recommended that you install a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm in the following locations:
Outside each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms.
On every level of the home, including the basement.
If the home has fuel-burning appliances, such as a furnace or hot water heater, a CO alarm should be installed in the vicinity of these appliances.
For multi-level homes, CO alarms should be placed on the top level, if the bedrooms are located on the upper levels.
It's important to note that CO alarms should be placed at least 15 feet away from fuel-burning appliances and at least 5 feet away from any wall or corner. CO alarms should also be placed at least 12 inches from any ceiling.
Additionally, it's important to note that CO alarms should be tested monthly and the batteries should be replaced at least once a year, or when the low battery warning sounds. CO alarms should be replaced after 7-10 years of use, or according to the manufacturer's instructions.
It's also important to have a professional inspect your appliances and heating systems at least once a year to ensure they are working safely and efficiently.
