How often should you change out your filter?
Updated: Jun 5
It’s that time of year again, time for all of us to run our air conditioners 24/7 and hope and pray that they stay efficient and on!
When it comes to efficiency, one of the most important and most overlooked habits of owning and maintaining an HVAC system is the practice of changing out your filters.
So, how often should you change your filter?
We recommended changing out the filter every 90 days at minimum. It complies with most manufacturers standards. A lot of factors come into play with each system, like allergies, pets, occupancy and so on. Making sure you don’t have a clogged filter is a sure fire way to ensures the best efficiency you can get at the return ( the return is where the air that circulates throughout the HVAC is brought into the system and is typically where the filter is located)
(Pro-tip) When you first find out about the size of your filter, it is a good idea to save that info near the thermostat or filter grill so that you don't have to take it out to find out the size before you buy.
The home inspection is important in identifying where the filter is, it’s condition and our recommendations. Keeping a few replacements on hand near the unit or return.
